Kaleidoscope:
The Man in Black In Bollywood
Vol: 1 Num: 2    Spring 2006

The one half of Men In Black who used to be Ali was recently spotted in Bollywood. Was the rapper Will Smith smitten by the tinsel town of India? You betcha! After finding the number of movies made per year – 800 – in Bollywood, the actor/singer reportedly told HT, “I am simply enticed to be part of it”.

That’s not the only thing that enticed the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Will Smith, who was in India to launch Sony Entertainment Television’s movie channel, SET PIX, named chicken tikka masala and Aishwarya Rai at the top of his list of favorites.

While visiting Taj Mahal on his first trip to India, Will also got “connected” with that old Emperor Shah Jahan, at least that’s what he told reporters. We don’t know whether they ever got to be on the first name basis but we do know that he understands Shah Jahan’s motives in building the monument of love. After all, as he told AP, he has built a lake in his Los Angeles home and named it Her Lake as a token of love for his wife, Jada Pinckett, Matrix Revolution star and lead singer of Wicked Wisdom.

A consummate and comedic performer, Will, then went on and charmed the start-struck Indian Idols and made Mini, the hostess, blush with his gaffes and quick witted repartees. The Grammy winner was the toast of the town, partying with the likes of Fardeen, Abhishek, Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan.

Before that Will wanted to be called Big W after watching the Big B in Sarkar. He also found that Aishwarya has “this powerful energy where she doesn’t have to say anything, do anything, she can just stand there” and said, “I would do anything that Aishwarya Rai will be part of. I love her so.”

Or may be he said that after all the partying!
